Update from Pastor Luis Román in Colombia
We are excited to share how God is at work through Pastor Luis Román, a member of our church family, serving with Iglesia Reformada Nación de Dios in Colombia. His ministry reflects how God transforms communities and builds up leaders to reach new people with the gospel.
Pastor Luis, along with elder Alexis Martínez, has been leading a sermon series on “Holiness,” based on J.C. Ryle’s timeless book. Through this teaching, the church has experienced a season of growth—spiritually and relationally—as the congregation deepens its understanding of what it means to live in Christlikeness. God is cultivating hearts that are more fully committed to Him.
In addition to the sermon series, leadership development has been central to their mission. Eight men meet monthly to prepare for future roles in teaching and leading the church. They’re studying foundational theological works, including Reformed Dogmatics by Herman Bavinck and Dangerous Calling by Paul Tripp, discussing how the gospel shapes both belief and practice. These gatherings represent the heart of a healthy, multiplying church that raises leaders to shepherd God’s people and advance His mission.
Like many ministries, they’ve faced unexpected challenges. A month ago, there was a robbery near their previous church building. While no one was harmed, the situation prompted the leadership to seek a safer space. Through God’s provision, they found a new location that is more secure and more suited to the growing needs of the congregation. Even though the move came with added costs, God opened doors in ways they couldn’t have imagined. The new space has led to increased attendance, and the congregation is thriving.
What looked like a disruption has become an opportunity for the church to grow in trust and in its mission to reach more people in the city. This is how God often works—leading us through challenges to create new possibilities for His kingdom. It’s a reminder that as we follow Him, He provides in ways that advance His purposes.
